Laser Season Is Right Around the Corner: Here's How to Prepare Your Skin Now
Believe it or not, laser season is almost here.
While we're still enjoying the last few weeks of summer, now is actually the perfect time to start preparing if you've been considering laser treatments. One of the biggest requirements before most laser procedures is avoiding direct sun exposure for at least 6 weeks (and often longer depending on your skin and treatment).
That means if you want glowing skin this fall and winter, now is the time to start planning.
Why Fall & Winter Are Known as "Laser Season"
Most advanced laser treatments work best when your skin is at its natural color without a tan. Sun exposure increases the risk of complications like burns, hyperpigmentation, and uneven healing after treatment.
That's why we recommend staying out of prolonged sun exposure for **6 weeks before treatment** and continuing to protect your skin afterward with daily SPF and sun avoidance.
As we begin moving toward the end of summer, this is the ideal time to start limiting sun exposure so you're ready for your laser treatments this fall.

Laser Hair Removal
If you've been dreaming of ditching the razor, laser season is the perfect opportunity.
Laser Hair Removal works by targeting the pigment within the hair follicle. Fresh tans make it difficult for the laser to distinguish between the hair and surrounding skin, increasing the risk of irritation or pigmentation changes.
Before treatment:
- Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 6 weeks
- No tanning beds or self-tanners
- Wear SPF daily on treated areas
The earlier you begin your series, the sooner you'll be enjoying smoother skin by next spring and summer.

Sciton ClearV
Redness, broken capillaries, rosacea, cherry angiomas, and visible facial veins are all common concerns we treat with Sciton ClearV.
Because vascular lasers target blood vessels beneath the skin, recent sun exposure can make treatment less predictable and increase sensitivity.
Before treatment:
- Stay out of the sun for 6 weeks or longer
- Wear broad-spectrum SPF every day
- Avoid developing a tan before your appointment
Fall is one of our favorite times to begin treating redness since patients are naturally spending less time outdoors.

Halo™ Hybrid Fractional Laser
Halo is one of our most popular laser treatments because it improves multiple concerns in one treatment, including:
- Sun damage
- Fine lines
- Enlarged pores
- Uneven texture
- Pigmentation
- Overall skin quality
Ironically, Halo is excellent at treating sun damage—but your skin needs to be protected from the sun before treatment.
Before treatment
- Avoid direct sun exposure for 6 weeks or longer
- No active tan
- Be diligent with sunscreen leading up to treatment
If your skin has taken a beating this summer, Halo is one of the best ways to refresh your complexion heading into the holidays.

Moxi™
Not everyone needs an aggressive laser treatment. Moxi is an excellent option for patients looking to prevent aging, improve skin tone, reduce early pigmentation, and maintain healthy, glowing skin.
Since Moxi also targets pigment, avoiding sun exposure beforehand is essential.
Before treatment:
- Stay out of the sun for **at least 6 weeks**
- Wear SPF daily
- Avoid tanning before your appointment
Many of our patients pair Moxi with Halo for comprehensive skin rejuvenation.

Contour TRL & Micro Laser Peels
When it comes to improving deeper wrinkles, acne scars, texture, and significant sun damage, more aggressive resurfacing treatments like Contour TRL and Micro Laser Peels can provide dramatic improvements.
These treatments create controlled resurfacing of the skin, making proper preparation extremely important.
Before treatment:
- Avoid direct sun exposure for 6 weeks or longer
- Keep your skin protected with daily sunscreen
- Arrive without an active tan
Because these treatments require downtime, many patients schedule them during the cooler months when staying indoors is much easier.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)
IPL is one of the most effective treatments for
- Brown spots
- Sun damage
- Freckles
- Uneven pigmentation
- Redness
Since IPL specifically targets pigment, tanned skin is not an ideal candidate for treatment.
Before treatment:
Avoid sun exposure for at least 6 weeks
Do not use tanning beds or self-tanners
Wear SPF every day
If summer left behind unwanted pigmentation, fall is the perfect time to start your IPL treatments.
