About Chemical Peels

Using the highest quality in chemical peel treatments, our office provides patients with choices for a medical-grade solution (such as salicylic, glycolic, trichloroacetic, and lactic acids) for a more radiant complexion. In our office, The Derm Lounge works to remove skin irregularities such as fine lines, wrinkles, scars, dry patches, hyperpigmentation problems, and more. Chemical peels remove dead or damaged skin cells by using a specific treatment on the skin that causes the oldest layer to slough off. When your skin recovers and starts to repair and rejuvenate itself, you will see a smoother, clearer complexion. A chemical peel facial is a great nonsurgical option for men and women and may be appropriate for the both the face and neck. If you desire luminous skin, call The Derm Lounge Med Spa in Dallas, TX today.

Variations of Chemical Peels

In our office, we offer chemical peels in a few strengths (light, medium, and deep chemical peels) to accommodate our patients' skin concerns and goals.

Light peels: You can receive a light peel during your lunch break and go right back to your normal routine all within the same hour. This type of peel will remove the outer layer of your skin (the epidermis), giving your facial features a more radiant appearance and smoother texture. We recommend that you schedule a light peel at least once a month for best results.

Medium-depth peels: This type of peel goes further into the skin and patients generally decide to have this type of facial treatment during an extended weekend. You may also want to ready yourself for increased discomfort during and about one hour following the treatment. Medium-depth peels are for patients who have heavier damage to their skin, like deeper lines and darker pigmentation problems to address.

Deep peels: The strongest of the three levels of peels is the deep peel, and it does require the longest recovery time. This is an aggressive treatment that may leave your face peeling, itchy, and swollen for a few weeks. Patients who have a deep chemical peel will have dark spots, sun damage, entrenched acne scars, and/or deep scars. Since this type of chemical peel is generally difficult to have without a numbing agent, we can provide you with a topical anesthetic as a part of your treatment.

Ideal Candidates

Seeking the advice of a skin care specialist is the first part in the journey to smooth, healthy skin. Patients with fair skin tones are usually ideal candidates for a chemical peel but we will evaluate your skin during an examination in our office. We will also ask about your medical history before proceeding with a chemical peel for optimal results. Ideal chemical peel patients will also have visible issues with their skin, such as scaly patches, flaky skin, uneven pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, and more. Depending on the tone of your skin, we can suggest different levels of peels to meet your needs and concerns.

PROCEDURE TECHNIQUES

On the day of your appointment, we will have you lying in a comfortable position to administer your treatment in one of our private treatment rooms. A team member will clean the skin before applying the personalized solution to the face, neck, or body. We will apply the solution to the skin and allow it to work for an appropriate length of time, which will be determined in your chemical peel consultation.  Patients may want to bring sunscreen and a hat to wear outside following the treatment to avoid direct sun exposure.

WHAT TO EXPECT

You should expect your skin to peel and itch for up to a week following the chemical peel.  We will give you instructions on how to treat your face during your chemical peel appointment. Please remember that no matter how badly your skin itches throughout the healing process, pulling the skin off is not a good idea, as this can create facial scarring.

Great Skin Starts here

Even if you are new to chemical peel treatments, we can help determine which peel level is best for you and can suggest other rejuvenating treatments that can help pamper your skin. Your freshly rejuvenated skin will respond by looking radiant and touchably soft. Contact our office to schedule your skin assessment today for a chemical peel.
