About IPL
If you struggle with how your facial skin appears because of sun damage dark spots or redness, The Derm Lounge Med Spa in Dallas, TX can perform a skin analysis to determine if you qualify for IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy. A photofacial with IPL is a skin rejuvenation treatment for adult men and women with hyperpigmentation problems on their face and neck. A photofacial may be a noninvasive process, but it can be highly effective in creating ideal outcomes. This treatment uses intense pulses of light energy that heat the skin cells to ignite the natural healing process and to increase the production of collagen. Over time, the results will yield a healthier complexion with an overall improved skin tone. Call our boutique Med Spa today to schedule an appointment with our anti-aging experts.

Ideal Candidates
IPL reaches the deeper layers of your skin to improve several complexion concerns (particularly brown patches and sun spots) with minimal or no downtime. Candidates for IPL at The Derm Lounge Med Spa will have a combination of concerns with their complexion such as rosacea, sun damage, brown spots (hyperpigmentation), freckles, redness, or broken capillaries. Our providers will examine your skin during your initial consultation to determine if you will benefit from IPL treatment.
Procedure Techniques
IPL generally takes about 20 – 30 minutes if no other treatments are performed during your appointment. To prepare for the IPL laser, your technician will wash and dry your skin before protecting your eyes with special laser shields. The IPL is performed with a handheld wand that will pass over the skin while emitting laser energy pulses. While many patients may have mild discomfort throughout the IPL, it's usually bearable given the short treatment length. Once the treatment is over, your complexion may be pink and swollen temporarily.
What to Expect
There usually is no downtime associated with an IPL photofacial treatment, but you may leave our office with your complexion a little red and swollen. This will decrease naturally as the day continues — it may be concealed with cosmetics if you prefer. We advise you keep a healing cream on the skin's surface to minimize any irritation and promote healing. It may also help to use an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicine to help decrease swelling. Over the course of 2 – 5 days, the sun damage and other irregularities under the skin will rise to the surface and then start to flake away. It is necessary to protect your skin with sunscreen at all times after getting an IPL photofacial treatment and to not pick at your skin. While you will have some visible improvements after your first treatment, your complexion will obtain ideal results with multiple IPL treatments. Our team often suggests most patients get 3 – 6 sessions performed every 4 weeks at The Derm Lounge Med Spa.
